Voice Coils

0 products

A voice coil is the moving element of a loudspeaker: it sits in the magnet gap and turns current into motion. Inside diameter, former material, wire type and winding height decide whether the coil fits an existing driver and how much power it can take. Start with those four values before comparing anything else.

What decides whether a voice coil fits my driver?

Inside diameter first, then former material and winding height. A coil that matches on diameter but not on height will not sit correctly in the gap.

Does higher impedance mean more power handling?

No. Impedance describes the electrical load; power handling depends on the wire, the former and how the coil is cooled. They are separate values and should be read separately.

Can the winding or impedance be customised?

Some models are offered with alternative wire or impedance. Where a value is not listed, send the driver specification and we will confirm feasibility.
