Tweeter Diaphragms

0 products

A diaphragm is the moving dome of a compression driver. Its diameter has to match the driver it is going into, the dome material shapes the high-frequency behaviour, and the voice coil wire sets much of the power ceiling. These three values are the fastest way to rule a diaphragm in or out.

How is diaphragm diameter measured?

It is the voice coil diameter of the assembly, not the outer edge of the dome. Measure the original part, or read it from the driver datasheet.

What does the dome material change?

Titanium and aluminium give a stiffer, brighter response; composite and polymer domes tend to break up later and softer. The difference is audible, but it must fit the driver's intended tuning.

Can a diaphragm be replaced on an existing driver?

In most compression drivers, yes - it is a service part. The safe route is to match the original diameter and voice coil wire before ordering.
